サーチレポートとはWIPO(World Intellectual Property Office : 国際知的所有権機関)の管轄国際調査機関(日本特許庁、欧州特許庁など)の先行技術調査結果を示す調査報告書のことで、出願された内容に関連する特許文献・一般文献、関連クレーム、文献の関連個所とカテゴリー(A,E,L,O,P,T,X,Y,)が記載されています。

サーチレポートには以下のようなカテゴリーが記載されています。カテゴリーは対象特許に対する引用文献の関連度を示しています。

• A : document defining the general state of the art which is not considered to be of particular relevance
• E : earlier document but published on or after the internatinal filing date
• L : document which may throw doubts on priority claim(s) or which is cited to establish the publication date of another citation or other special reason (as specified)
• O : document referring to an oral disclosure, use, exhibition or other means
• P : document published prior to the international filing date but later than the priority date claimed
• T : later document published after the international filing date or priority date and not in conflict with the application but cited to understand the principle or theory underlying the invention
• X : document of particular relevance; the claimed invention cannot be considered novel or cannot be considered to involve an inventive step when the document is taken alone
• Y : document of particular relevance; the claimed invention cannot be considered to involve an inventive step when the document is combined with one or more other such documents, such combination being obvious to a person skilled in the art

カテゴリーX,Y,Aを意訳すると、

• X : 関連性が高い文献であり、この文献単独で新規性･進歩性がないと判断できるもの
• Y : 関連性がある文献であり、他の文献との組合せにより進歩性がないと判断できるもの
• A : 対象特許に関して技術的背景を述べている文献であり、参考程度のもの

となります。
